PABLO — The Salish Kootenai Bison will scuffle into the postseason as they prepare for their title defense of the AIHEC championship.

In the final game of the regular season at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center in Pablo Friday Night, the Bison dropped their fourth game in a row, falling to AIHEC opponent Northwest Indian College 101-93.

Only trailing 47-43 at the break, NWIC’s Josh Nelson scored 19 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to help NWIC pull away from the Bison down the stretch.

“We didn’t do the things like we normally do. We didn’t share the ball and we played as individuals, instead of as a whole team,” SKC coach Zach Conko-Camel said.

The Bison were paced by Mission Bulldog standout Gus McDonald, who finished with 19 points. Sonny Eppinette, one of the few returning players from last year’s AIHEC championship team, added 18 points. Shawn Blount added 13 and Jason Enright finished with 12.

The Bison’s four-game losing streak came after a 10-game winning streak. Several of the Bison losses during this losing streak came against teams they will face at the AIHEC championship March 18-21 in Santa Fe, N.M. – they also lost to Blackfeet Community College, who they defeated in last year’s AIHEC championship game.

“We have our work cut out for us. It’s really going to be a battle,” Conko-Camel said.
