Lady Eagles end season with straight losses at districts

RONAN — The Lady Eagles couldn’t string four good quarters together at the District 14-C Tournament and were eliminated after two games.
Two River Eagle started the tournament with a 69-38 loss to Noxon Friday and ended the tournament with a 54-36 loss to Arlee Saturday.
“If we could play the whole game like we do the fourth quarter, it definitely would have been a different story,” said Two Eagle River coach Mark Shackelford, after watching his team end its season — a season where the Lady Eagles beat Philipsburg for the first time in recent memory, played Noxon to within two points and only lost to Arlee by five points.
“We got better. It was just that most of the time we couldn’t put four quarters together, and that’s what it takes, but I’m proud of them. They worked hard all year, they should be proud of themselves,” Shackelford said.
The Lady Eagles were outrebounded 35-12 in the opening loss to Noxon and 46-21 in the loss to Scarlets. The Scarlets had 15 offensive rebounds and the Lady Red Devils finished with 13.
Jaylen Carpentier led the Lady Eagles in scoring in both games finishing with 18 against the Lady Red Devils and 10 against Arlee. In her three years of playing at Two Eagle River, the senior averaged around 14 points and 10 rebounds a game.
Five-foot-6 senior Sam Ness scored 11 points against the Red Devils and eight against Arlee. Adele Frost, the Lady Eagles’ senior point guard, finished her career with a nine-point performance against Arlee.
