POLSON — Barry Webb got a special valentine on Friday, Feb. 12. — a high school diploma.

At a gathering at Cherry Valley School at about 2:30 p.m., Polson High School Principal Bill Appleton presented Barry with a PHS diploma as well as a mortarboard and tassel. Barry’s tassel sported a sparkly 10 making him a member of Polson High School’s class of 2010.

First graders led by teachers Helen Siemers and Sarah DeVoe presented Barry with a collection of hand made valentines and sang a valentine song in his honor.

Barry’s high school diploma and valentines are the latest in a string of interesting things Barry has received since the community learned Barry has late stage lymphoma. Vanna White, star of “Wheel of Fortune,” one of Barry’s favorite TV shows, sent Barry an autographed photo. The Polson Volunteer Police Department presented Barry with a fire chief’s hat.

Barry politely posed for photos with his diploma and cap, visited with friends and accepted his heart-filled valentines before Charlotte Skofstad, Barry’s sister, whisked him off for a nap.

"He tires easily these days," Charlotte said.

But as Charlotte pushed Barry down the hallway in his wheelchair, he had a big, Barry-sized smile on his face.
