Arlee

ST. REGIS – The Scarlets faced a bit of the blues last week with troubles on the court that left a scar on their 8-1 conference record, but it wasn’t enough to knock them out of first place in the tough 14-C district.

At St. Regis on Thursday the Scarlets took the first hit to their flawless league record after falling to the Lady Tigers 38-47.

A strong first quarter by St. Regis left the Scarlets playing catchup. Although the Scarlets enjoyed a brief moment of clarity while outscoring their opponent in the second frame, it wasn’t enough to launch Arlee into a leading position, and the Scarlets were sent home with their first conference loss.

Scarlets Violet Pablo and Morgan Malatare each scored nine in the contest.

Saturday the Scarlets played up in conference, challenging Loyola-Sacred Heart in Missoula. With tough Breaker defense preventing the Scarlets from getting it done under the net, the Arlee ladies took their second hit of the week, falling 36-56 to the Class B Breakers.

Scarlet Bryndle Goyins high scored her team with 12. Becca Whitesell added 9.

The Scarlets hope to pick back up while hosting Mission on Friday, and then Saturday they’ll be visited by Noxon.

Charlo

CHARLO – The Lady Vikings have something to celebrate as they make room for themselves alongside rival and neighbor Arlee Scarlets in the top spot on the District 14-C conference ladder after picking up a couple of league wins over the last week of play.

In front of their home town fans Thursday, the Lady Vikings toasted Two Eagle River, more than doubling the Lady Eagles score in the 69-26 win.

After grabbing a quick lead in the first half, the Lady Vikings sealed the deal with a 29-point third frame, easily toppling their conference foes and bringing them one step closer to sharing the throne.

Mikaylan Roylance scored 19 for the Lady Vikings, a game-high for both teams, while Shayna Nagy chipped in 15.

Saturday the Lady Vikings easily rolled over Noxon at home, sending the Lady Red Devils packing with the 24-60 victory.

Nagy sisters Shayna and Cheyenne combined for more than half of the Lady Vikings points with Shayna logging 18 and Cheyenne chipping in 14.

The Lady Vikings hope to continue their domination with a couple of games on the road. Friday they will head to Superior and then on to Philipsburg to take on Granite Saturday.

Mission

ST. IGNATIUS – The Lady Bulldogs toughed out another week of disappointment while still on the hunt for a first win.

On Tuesday, Jan. 27 the Lady Bulldogs did see some spark with a two-point lead over Bigfork coming out of the first frame but a dry second and third left the Lady Bulldogs playing from behind in a race that ended with the Valkyries going home with the 41-57 prize.

Despite the loss, Lady Bulldogs Irene Lopez led all scorers, tossing in 25 for Mission.

At home Saturday the Lady Bulldogs faced Florence in a 6B conference battle but after falling behind right out of the gate, the Lady Bulldogs never climbed out of the early-dug hole, leaving the Mission to go home with the 39-62 league loss.

Nine Lady Bulldogs put points on the scoreboard, led by Sydney Castor with 12. Lopez came in right behind netting eight.

The Lady Bulldogs are hoping to find that first W while challenging the tough Scarlets in Arlee Friday and then will return to host Loyola-Sacred Heart Saturday.

STEVENSVILLE – The Lady Pirates struggled to get anything done under the net in their last week of play, scoring only 46 points split between a pair of losses.

On Tuesday, Jan. 27, the Lady Pirates challenged the Lady Yellowjackets in Stevensville and though Polson enjoyed a second quarter triumph, it wasn’t enough, sending the Lady Pirates packing 21-30.

Lauren Lefthand led the Lady Pirates in points, tossing in eight, while Nichole Lake came away with seven.

At home Friday the Lady Pirates fell 25-39 in a Northwestern A conference bout against Frenchtown, bringing the Lady Pirates to 1-3 in league play.

Ronan

MISSOULA – The Maidens continue their run on world domination — well, 6B domination at least — after picking up a pair of wins last week, one of which notched another W on their conference record.

Tuesday the Maidens challenged Loyola-Sacred Heart in Missoula and picked up the 67-48 conference win against the Breakers.

Two big quarters on the Maidens’ side helped Ronan topple the Breakers and three double-digit performances from Maiden athletes aided the league victory.

Alicia Camel led the attack, netting 17 points for the Maidens, while Lee Camel added 15 and Micalann McCrea tossed in another 12.

At Corvallis Friday the Maidens toppled Class A’s Lady Blue Devils 47-27 with an impressive second half turnaround.

After coming out of the first half with a one-point lead, the Maidens slammed into overdrive. In the third quarter alone, they scored nearly as many points as the entire first half, while providing solid Maiden defense to keep Breakers away from the net.

Alicia Camel was the high scorer, netting 19 for the Maidens. Lee Camel added 11.

Up next for the Maidens will be away games played in Eureka Thursday and then on to Troy on Saturday.

Two Eagle River

CHARLO – The Lady Eagles came away with a split last week after falling in a 14-C contest, but came back to add a victory to their 6-8 season record.

Thursday the Lady Eagles traveled to Lady Viking territory to face 14-C rival Charlo, but after four quarters of Lady Viking torture, Two Eagle River jumped ship with the 26-69 loss.

Casadi Wunderlich and Shay-Lyn Andrew each scored seven in the contest.

Finding redemption Friday, the Lady Eagles toppled Victor 47-23 in front of a Pablo home crowd, making the Lady Pirates walk the plank in every quarter of hardwood play.

Wunderlich high scored for the Lady Eagles, netting 20 — three less than Victor’s total score. Naomi Stevens added eight for her team.

The Lady Eagles will host St. Regis Friday and then will meet Superiors Bobcats Saturday at home. Friday’s home game will also be Senior Night for the Lady Eagles.
