DIXON — It’s 60 degrees on my deck in the Banana Belt of the Jocko, no snow on the ground. A spring-like breeze inspired me to open my kitchen door and listen to the wind chimes. I know it’s just a teaser—but it’s much appreciated.
Dixon’s “mukluk telegraph”, as local news is called in Alaska, wasn’t working for Dixon lately. Our long-time resident and valuable senior center member, Marie Ardis, was in the hospital, recovering from a heart attack...and no one got the word for 10 days. She is home and taking care of business again, for which we are very thankful.
Dixon School principal, Kelly Moore, and new fourth grade teacher, Brittany Moore, accompanied 11 honor roll students to lunch with us at the Dixon Senior Center recently. They do this each quarter of the school year.
Our thanks to Jo Belles and John Day from Plains, for joining us for lunch and bringing a quantity of huge potatoes from their harvest. Cook Jen will make great use of them in many ways! You are missing a treat if you don’t make it to lunch on Thursdays or dinner at 5 p.m. on Mondays. Jen is surprising us with creative meals and delicious new concoctions...come join us. The menu for February will be:
• Thursday, Feb. 12: scalloped potatoes and ham
• Monday, Feb.16: turkey breast
• Thursday, Feb. 19: bean dip salad
• Monday, Feb. 23: lasagna
• Thursday, Feb. 26: Tex-Mex, chicken soup
All ages are welcome to come and take-out is available. Let someone else do the cooking and clean up for you.
As a special event, since there wasn’t a gift exchange at Christmas, we will have one at the Monday dinner on Feb.19. To join in, just bring a wrapped gift under $10, mark it for a man or woman or either one. Please come play with us.
