Daughters went with fathers to the Father Daughter Valentines Dance on Saturday in the Brown Building, and some daughters went to the dance with grandfathers or uncles — some even borrowed fathers.

“I never danced before, so this is fun,” said Grace Brazill, 11. She brought her grandpa Jerome Matt.

Jesse Johnston said his daughters Paige, 7, and Payden, 5, decided he would take them to the dance.

“We heard about it and wanted to go so we can dance with dad and have fun,” Paige said.

Jason Solum taught Elina Moore, 10, a few dance steps during the night. He said it was important to spend time with his daughter.

“I only have one chance to be a dad so I don’t want to mess it up,” he said.

The dance was organized as a fundraiser.

“We saw this done in a different community and wanted to bring the idea here,” said Paula Wofford, Brown Building Committee member. “It’s a fundraiser for the Brown Building and a community activity.”

The Brown Building is open to many events during the year including dance recitals, wedding receptions and birthday parties. Anyone can rent the space for a small fee.

“In order to keep the building going, we have to raise money,” she said. “We also have the Jocko Library. We don’t charge them rent and we help pay for their heat.”

Roxanne Duffy took booth style photos during the dance that will be available on the community website. Blackfoot Telephone helped sponsor the dance.

“We have a lot of people working together to keep this place going,” Wofford said.

Music was provided by a local band called the Rock Pickers, which included Tim Krantz, Tony Mathes and Paul Tatto. The group plays in small venues around the valley with the idea of getting more people involved with music.

“Music brings everybody together,” Krantz said.
