POLSON — The Polson Pirates stayed busy with four duals last week, winning three and getting edged in one other.

Polson earned two dual wins over Whitefish, on the road Tuesday and in Polson on Friday. The Pirates won the first dual 78-3 by winning eight matches by pin and five by forfeit. Polson took the Friday dual 75-6, winning seven matches by pin and another five by forfeit.

Freshman Nate Brooks took a big step forward as he pinned fourth-ranked Dalton Rice of Whitefish twice over the course of the week.

"Nate is really coming along. I've got a lot of freshmen who are stepping up," Polson head coach Bob Owen said.

On Saturday, the Pirates travelled to Frenchtown for a pair of duals against Frenchtown and Corvallis.

Polson was edged by Frenchtown in the first dual 44-42.

Winning by pin for the Pirates were Craig Feistner (98), Nate Brooks (130), Jacob Young (135), Chris Cote (152), Ty Fouty (160), Brock Picard and Kaden Thomas (heavyweight).

Nick Howell made it back from injury into the lineup, though he lost a major decision at 125 pounds.

But the real difference in the match was the bout at 140 pounds, according to coach Owen. Polson's Mike Devlin was in the match, but got caught on his back in the third period and lost by pin, giving Frenchtown six big points.

"That one killed us ... but I think we can turn that around (next time)," Owen said.

The coach was pleased to see Ty Fouty win the 160-pound match, pinning Eli Endreland in 1:37. Fouty, who normally wrestles at 152 and ranked fourth in the state, is feeling the waters at 160 before divisionals and state.

"Ty looked real good against Endreland," Owen noted.

Later in the day Polson beat a tough Corvallis squad 45-39 with five pins in the heaviest four weights and at 98 pounds.

Winning by pin was Feistner (98), Devin Kamarainen (171), Picard (189), Josiah Clairmont (215) and Thomas (heavyweight).

"That top end looked very good," Owen said, adding that Thomas' win was his first over Jeff Markett. "It was a nice match for Kaden. He dominated the match up until the pin."

The Pirates will finish up the final week of regular season wrestling with dual against Columbia Falls in Polson Tuesday night and a final dual in Ronan on Friday, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Northwestern A Divisional wrestling tournament will follow in Polson at Linderman Gym on Saturday, Feb. 6.
