ARLEE – The Arlee School Board renewed both contracts for the district’s principals at the last board meeting. The pressure was on after Superintendent George Linthicum’s contract was not renewed at an earlier meeting. Teachers in the high school collaborated to submit a letter addressed to the board to voice their support for high school and junior high principal Jim Taylor.
“One staff member says she will never forget the staff meeting where Mr. Taylor said that even though he has extensive history in athletics and coaching, he knows the number one priority for us as educators is academics, and that we must all work to support students in their academic success,” the teachers stated in the letter. They went on to say, “Furthermore, several teachers said they might not always agree, but they do not fear retaliation for speaking their mind to Mr. Taylor.”
Classified maintenance workers in the district settled the terms of their contracts with board approval after two years of negotiations for a one percent pay increase for both years. Holiday pay was adjusted to coincide with the school’s 10-hour days instead of the previous eight hours.
