RONAN — Jay “Red” Stevens, Jr., age 78 of Ronan, passed away March 1, 2015, of pulmonary fibrosis at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, on March 16, 1936. He was the only boy in a family of eight. Jay moved to Eureka, Montana, at age 18, where he met and married Ruby Gibson in 1955.

He worked in logging, heavy equipment and drove truck. He helped his wife Ruby in the restaurant business for many years at Ruby’s Cafe in Missoula, Ruby’s Cafe at the Charlo Junction and the Uptown Cafe in Ronan before settling in the Mission Valley. He lived in Seeley Lake, Missoula and Haines, Alaska.

Jay’s favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. He was an avid hunter and loved to take the kids and grandkids hunting and teach them the ins and outs of outsmarting the game.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby; three children: Jay III (Chris), Connie and Carrie, all of Charlo; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one sister Linda (Roger) of Rockton Illinois.
