ST. IGNATIUS – The Chiefs and Maidens enjoyed a comfortable ride on the tennis courts this past week as they swept Mission and picked up a couple more wins the next day in Missoula.

At Mission on Monday Ronan cleaned up with both the boys and the girls easily scooting by Mission’s racquets to gain the 5-1 Chief/Maiden victories.

Chief Fisher Sima posted the best numbers for the boys after defeating Andrew Esslinger 6-4, 6-2. Coleman Taylor and doubles team Caleb Koble/Jacob Dresen also picked up wins for Ronan.

Maidens Sam Ashley and Jenaya Burns each came out on top for the girls with Ashley finishing up 6-1, 6-0 and Burns easily skipping ahead to a 6-0, 6-1 win against Lady Bulldog Michaela Corbin.

Tuesday against hard hitting Loyola-Sacred Heart, the Chiefs fell to the Rams 2-4.

Despite the team loss, Chief Colton Roullier beat a hard-pressed battle at the net, picking up the 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 win. Doubles team Koble/Ethan Blevins logged the second win for the Chiefs after taking it into extra sets 6-4, 0-6, 10-8.

Loyola’s aggressive moves proved to be a thorn in the palm for the girls as well as the Maidens took a back row seat to the Lady Rams, 2-4.

The Maidens picked up their duo of wins on the doubles court as doubles team Hannah Kiehn/Hannah Birdrattler and Breanna Turpin/Sam Friedlander each picked up a win. Kiehn/Birdrattler did it 6-4, 6-3 while Turpin/Friedlander posted the best doubles number for the day, sending their opponents packing 6-1, 6-0.

In the nightcap match, both Chiefs and Maidens snuffed out Valley Christian’s torch to finish the day victorious.

The boys toppled Valley Christian 3-1 with two-out-of-three wins coming from doubles teams. Team Taylor/Dresen led in scoring posting a 6-0, 6-3 win while team Blevins/Roullier and singles competitor Fisher Shima also picked up wins for the Chiefs.

The Maidens only played two matches against Valley Christian, easily squashing their opponents for the sweep.

Birdrattler posted a 6-1, 6-0 score over Valley Christian’s Marge Henricken and doubles team Ashley/Julia Matkovich won their match 6-2, 6-3.

Coming up for Ronan will be a home girls-only contest on Thursday and then both the Chiefs and Maidens will host Bigfork and Darby Saturday.
