POLSON – While experiencing multiple seasons on the field with a mixture of wind, rain, snow, fog — and even a peek-a-boo teasing of sunshine — Polson track and field athletes competed despite Mother Nature’s fury on Thursday at the first of two home-hosted meets.

While no team scores were kept, Pirates and Lady Pirates, along with Corvallis and Hamilton, ran, jumped and vaulted their way to the top spots proving a little bit of Artic blast would not keep them down. Spirits were high in the stands as well as spectators dug deep into their car trunks to find mittens and ear muffs.

Lady Pirates scored big in the pole vault as top three spots went to Polson’s girls.

Lydia Bowman launched the highest, clearing 9-00. She also placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.93 and anchored the 100 meter relay in which Polson placed second.

Charlee Cote was right behind in the pole vault at 7-00 and Darbee Jore-Lytle placed third at 6-06.

In the throwing events, first place went to Lady Pirate Mariah Corrigan, who threw 120-00 to grab the javelin gold. Corrigan also tossed a 29-05.50 second place at the shot put pit.

Lady Pirate third placers were Faith Olson (400m - 1:09.44), Madison Wheeler (300h - 18.9), Gracie Carlyle (LJ - 14-06) and Erin Sampson (SP- 29-01).

Pirate Danny DiGiallonardo cleaned up for the boys, placing first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.27, second in the 200m dash (24.65) and third in the long jump after landing 19-00.50.

Jacob Clairmont snagged first in the long jump after launching 21-00, placed second in the 110h (16.11), and added a silver in the pole vault (12.06).

Matthew Rensvold also scored a first place in the 400m dash after crossing the finish line with a time of 53.95.

Third place finishers include Walter Wood (200m – 24.70), Colton Cote (400m – 55.28), Mike Mercer (1600m – 5:00.78) and Joe Gallatin (SP – 42-00.25).

The Pirate relay teams placed second in the 100m and third in the 400m.

Coming up for the Polson track and field team will be road trip to Missoula Saturday to compete at the Missoula County High School Invitational.
