Easter dawned over the Missions through a thin veil of fog as a full moon, fresh from an eclipse, set to the west — timed perfectly with believers celebrating Resurrection Sunday at sunrise services.

Folks from Lighthouse Christian Fellowship gathered at the peak of Rocky Butte, south of Ronan, to worship through songs, prayers, Bible reading and hot coffee. Boulders at the site symbolized Jesus’ tomb and the rock rolled away after He rose from the dead. Those attending ended their service with a loud cry, “He is risen, He is risen, He is risen!”

One day earlier, drizzling rain and 35 degrees under an overcast sky didn’t discourage the Easter Bunny or the kids who came to the Alpha Upsilon Easter Egg Hunt at Boettcher Park in Polson. Although numbers of egg hunters were down due to the cold weather, many children bundled up in coats, hats and rain boots to wait for the Polson fire truck to signal the beginning of the hunt for about 4,000 eggs.

Further north, snow and rain greeted 62 children who showed up Saturday in Dayton for two egg hunts and an Easter Bonnet contest. One adult and 17 children wore their bonnets, and two lucky grand prize winners went home with $40 gift cards from Walmart.

In Ronan, babies, toddlers, and teens alike braved rainy skies to find Hershey Kiss-filled eggs tucked along the banks of Spring Creek in Bockman Park. The park was coated in more than 1,000 eggs, though volunteers didn’t know exactly how many were planted for the event, sponsored by Mission Mountain Enterprises.

After the mad dash for eggs, kids lined up for soggy shots with the Easter Bunny before finding a warm, dry place to store their loot.

Fresh green grass provided the perfect disguise for dozens of eggs laid on Mission High School’s football field Saturday, where the St. Ignatius Chamber of Commerce hosted the hunt.
