PABLO — The Salish Kootenai College Lady Bison got hot from long range in the second half to help them recover from a slow start in a 75-64 victory over Oglala Lakota College.

Saturday at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Complex, the Lady Bison only led the Bravehearts 28-25 at halftime, but drained seven 3-pointers in the second half to pick up their fourth win of the season.

“The 3’s definitely helped us keep the lead in the second half,” SKC coach Juan Perez said. “But our shooting percentage is still lower than it needs to be,” he added.

Both Misty Ostlie and Marianne Addison hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second half. Ostlie’s second trey in the half came near the midway mark right after the Bravehearts had taken a 45-43 lead, which was their first lead of the half. The guard from Cusik, Wash., finished with 11 points.

The Bravehearts tied the game at 47, but Shaylene Piedalue put the Lady Bison up for good with a 3-pointer with just over seven minutes to play. The guard from St. Ignatius finished with six points.

Carla McLean led the Lady Bison with 20 points. The center went 6-of-7 at the free throw line in the second half. Genevieve Cochran scored 10 points with seven coming in the second half.

The Lady Bison’s accuracy from long distance helped them salvage a win in a game they came out flat in.

“It was a lot closer than it should have been. We just didn’t have our normal pep in our step,” Perez said.

The win boosted the reigning AIHEC champions to 4-7. The Lady Bison’s next scheduled game isn’t until Feb. 13, but Perez said he is trying to schedule a couple of games with OLC the week before.
