DIXON — A Ronan man was found injured but alert around 4:15 p.m. April 29 after spending three nights lost in the wilderness near Dixon.

Troy Akers, 20, was located in a creek bottom by search teams. Akers had a hurt ankle, and was flown to a hospital in Missoula for treatment.

“He was cold and bruised and had abrasions from walking through the brush,” Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said.

Authorities say Akers and three others were traveling north from Missoula on April 26 when their vehicle was disabled in a remote area. Akers became separated from the trio, who were located by Two Bear Helicopter that night, according to Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel.

Approximately 25 people participated in the search from Sanders County Search and Rescue, Lake County Search and Rescue Flathead County Search and Rescue, North Valley Search and Rescue, Lincoln County Search and Rescue, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Fish and Game, Missoula Search and Rescue, a canine unit, and the United States Border Patrol.
