ARLEE — The Arlee Scarlets turned the ball over too many times and didn’t shoot well enough to beat the two toughest teams in District 14-C last week.

In the Scarlets 46-14 loss to the Lady Vikings in Charlo Thursday and their 41-29 loss to the Savage Heat at home Saturday they turned the ball over nearly 20 times in each game and their shooting percentage hovered around 20 percent.

“We weren’t shooting the ball well and we weren’t taking care of the ball,” Arlee coach Richard Bachmeier said. “You can’t shoot less than 20 percent and expect to win many ball games.”

Against the Lady Vikings, the Scarlets committed 19 turnovers and shot 18 percent from the field. Against the Savage Heat they turned the ball over 20 times and shot 23 percent.

The Scarlet defense held them in the game in the first quarter against Charlo and they only trailed 5-2 at the end of the first frame, but the Lady Vikings put the game away with a 17-5 second quarter.

Melissa Ivanoff, Mahalia Hendren and Kristyn Adams finished with four points apiece. Chelsea Allaire had two.

The Scarlets played better, but still came out on the short end of the stick in a 41-29 loss Friday. Only trailing 23-17 at halftime, the Scarlets turned the ball over on six straight trips down the court in the third quarter.

“That’s where the game got away from us,” Bachmeier said.

Ivanoff led the Scarlets with 10 points. Kristyn Adams finished with seven and April Brunett added six.

The Scarlets (4-2) will be on the road next week. They play Seeley-Swan Friday and Noxon Saturday.
