News from the Helping Hands Fund

POLSON — Music is a universal language and brings folks of different walks of life together. The Spring Music Festival, held Sunday, May 3, is truly an ecumenical event that is entertaining and uplifting both spiritually and emotionally and raises funds to support the Polson Ministerial Association’s (PMA) Helping Hands Fund.

Our thank you list is long, but it takes us all to create such a fantastic musical experience.

The first expression of thanks goes to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. The church is the largest church in Polson and can hold the musicians and audience easily. Members of the Knights of Columbus have for years prepared and served a spaghetti supper in the church basement immediately following the musical program. Participating churches provide salads and desserts for the supper.

A gigantic shout-out to Chris Bumgarner, a loved task-master, who is able to pull good sounds and joy from us all. Donna Rowold, Arlene Kintz and Mason Niblack also work hard to create a superb musical program. Pianist Karla Gallatin is a perfect accompanist, she never misses a note. Harpist Debbie Conrad played the offertory music to the delight of all. The Flathead Flute Choir and Copeland Memorial Ringers added variety and enjoyment. Soloists’, instrumentalists’ and choirs’ talents are key to a good program that is well attended.

Thanks to Joyce Erickson for loaning her grand piano to the event. Rud Knudsen is responsibility for moving the heavy instrument. The Polson High School Music Department risers are used and that also takes a moving crew. Is it obvious yet how many folks it takes to make this event work?

Jennifer Rolfsness, the Helping Hands Fund coordinator, gave a thorough talk explaining the fund’s mission and giving us a few examples that make her work meaningful and worthwhile for her. It is obvious that the PMA is fortunate to have such a capable, caring person as the fund coordinator.

Thanks to Thrivent Financial, a fraternal insurance and investment company, who offered a grant to purchase music.

And thanks to you, general public, for helping us raise more than $3,800 for the HHF to use to provide emergency food, transportation, housing and financial assistance to those who have no other option for help. Donations are always welcome and can be mailed to HHF, P.O Box 1094, Polson.

A final thanks goes to and from the Festival Committee who organized the event, including Valerie Lindstrom, Toni Young, Bumgarner, Kintz, Niblack and Rowold.
