News from the office of the Lake County Superintendent of Schools

POLSON — Now is the time to seek reimbursement for transportation and to submit forms for children attending out-of-district schools, according to Michelle Wood, Lake County Superintendent of Schools. Agreements must be in place before June school board meetings.

Parents who live more than 3 miles from a school that does not provide bus transportation, or more than 3 miles from the nearest bus stop, they may be entitled under state law to reimbursement for transporting their children in grades K-12.  Parents will be reimbursed only for days the students actually attend school.

By state law parents sending children to districts other than their resident district must have “Out of District Attendance Agreements” in place before that child may attend. This includes elementary children choosing to attend and/or ride buses to a different elementary district within their high school district. Examples are Valley View, Dayton, Dixon, Swan Lake, and Somers.

Transportation Contracts and Out of District Attendance Agreements are available at school district offices for anyone who believes they may be entitled to transportation money, or for those who send their child to a non-resident district.

Forms must be submitted before the June school board meetings when the 2015-12 school year budget is set.
