ST. IGNATIUS — Zoro the drug dog sniffed out two bags of marijuana in the St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center. One was under a couch pillow and another in a bookcase. The bags had been placed there earlier by Montana Highway Patrol K-9 Officer Shad Andersen.
The demonstration took place during a meeting of the St. Ignatius Neighborhood Watch May 18.
Zoro is used to check vehicles, buildings and people for the presence of drugs. He is a young, high-energy dog that continually paces when he is on the search. He was obviously enjoying the work.
The group was also introduced to new St. Ignatius Chief of Police Matthew Connelly. Connelly, who said he has just begun to get acquainted with the community, has extensive experience with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
In other business, the group discussed continuing its formal organizational procedures to become a nonprofit entity, the plan to obtain stickers and two additional signs and possible future projects. They also talked about illegal and suspicious activities in the town.
The group meets in the senior center every third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.
