RONAN – K. William Harvey Elementary School students jumped up and down in delight as Victoria Valentine, Miss Montana 2014, told the group last week that each of them would get to take home three children’s books, free of charge.
Valentine’s platform, Read it and Reap, encourages children to reap the benefits of literacy, and daily reading. In addition to her stop in Ronan, she also gave away books Friday at the Polson Farmers Market. Valentine received 15,000 books to give to students across Montana from the World Book Drive. She gave away 600 in Ronan.
Valentine’s grandparents and mom are from Ronan, so she wanted to include the elementary school students from the area.
“This place is close to my heart,” Valentine said.
K. William Harvey Dean of Students Carey Swanberg, a long-time friend of Valentine’s family, said she was appreciative of Valentine’s presence in the schools. Valentine also spoke to students earlier this year.
“She is great,” Swanberg said.
