News from Polson Dollars for Scholars

POLSON — This year Polson Dollars for Scholars awarded 38 scholarships totaling $53,500 to Polson High School seniors and former Polson High School graduates who are currently attending an accredited two year, four year, community college, university or vocational school.

One new scholarship was provided this year by the alumni of the Class of 1964 in the amount of $500 for a college student. Dollars for Scholars add to this scholarship to increase it to $2,000. This scholarship was for any Polson graduate who was a student at any university who had completed their freshman year. Joanna Browning was the recipient of this scholarship.

Four $1,000 Hib and Mildred Hanson Memorial scholarships were awarded to Jaylin Kenney Riley Kenney, Laura Barta and Bradford Dalton.

The Chris Hoyt Memorial $500 scholarship, set up by the Hoyt family in memory of highway patrolman Christopher Hoyt was awarded to Shilah Doble and Reno Lindesmith. Polson Dollars for Scholars matched these scholarships to make them $1,000. A second $500 Hoyt scholarship along with a $500 scholarship from the Oberlitner/Theiler Family Scholarship was awarded to Sarah Howell. A second $1,000 scholarship from this same family was awarded to Kole Cordier and was increased to $2,000 with $1,000 added by Polson Dollars for Scholars. Jaiden Toth was also awarded a $500 Oberlitner/Theiler Scholarship matched by Polson Dollars for Scholars for a total of $1,000.

Because of the high cost of post-secondary education, Polson Dollars for Scholars donated money to individual scholarships that have been sponsored by various groups of individuals, so that each $500 scholarship for college students was increased to $2,000.

The following $2,000 scholarships were also presented to students who are graduates and currently attending college. Kayla Duford received the Dollars for Scholars Continuing Education Scholarship. Austin Von Tom and Sharidan Russell were awarded the Fred Barnowsky Scholarship. The Merle Anderson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Heidi Rausch.
