ARLEE – Dave Whitesell attended his first regular board meeting as the new superintendent of the Arlee School District on July 14.
“I’m excited to be here,” he said to the board. “I’ve been here for a couple of weeks and I see a lot of good things in Arlee and things that need worked on.”
Whitesell shared his vision for the school by outlining a list of goals. He stated the first goal was to focus on student achievement. Employee excellence was the second goal. He wants to develop a plan for recruiting, developing and retaining staff. He also said that employee recognition was an important part of creating a good team.
Developing a community council was another one of his goals. He said that a group of community members would be an asset to help determine community response to anything concerning the school.
Whitesell’s third goal was safety improvements. He wants increased security for the school and staff. He said that security cameras would be an asset. He wants to work on the public address system and improve communication tools for staff on the playground.
“I’d love to see a safety committee,” he said of a group of staff members he plans to assemble.
The fifth goal concerned the school budget with a focus on ways to improve for the future. Whitesell said his list of goals were still broad, but he planned to develop them with school and community input.
