News from Flathead Lakers

LAKESIDE — Flathead Lakers members and friends will gather to celebrate Flathead Lake and clean water at the Lakers’ annual meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the Glacier Camp and Conference Center near Lakeside. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Native plant expert Andrew Beltz will talk about the value of riparian buffers for water quality and his work helping the Flathead Lakers and a lakeshore property owner create a native plant riparian buffer. Beltz is a co-owner of Forestoration, a forest management company focusing on ecological restoration, and owner of the Center for Native Plants, a native plant nursery.

Aaron Clausen, Flathead River Steward, will share insights on the Flathead River Steward Program and its projects to restore riparian buffers along the Flathead River. 

The Flathead Lakers will present their annual Stewardship Award to Bob and Betty Moore for partnering with the Lakers to create a demonstration lakeshore buffer.

Flathead Lake Biological Station Director Dr. Jack Stanford will present the annual State of the Lake Report. This will be Stanford’s last report to the Flathead Lakers as Director, as he will be retiring next spring.

The program begins at 7 p.m. A social time prior to the program begins at 6:15 p.m. with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. 

The Flathead Lakers is a nonprofit organization working for clean water, healthy ecosystems and lasting quality of life in the Flathead Watershed.
