News from Montana State Parks

BIG ARM – Montana State Parks reminds visitors that fire restrictions are in effect at Wild Horse Island State Park on Flathead Lake at all times, meaning year round.

Due to the remote location, high fuels and typical arid conditions on the island, all open flames, including campfires, smoking and barbeque grills, are prohibited throughout public areas of the park including the shoreline. Private land owners are required to follow Stage 1 fire restrictions.

If visitors witness a fire, grill or other open flame on Wild Horse Island State Park, they should report it to FWP Region One Headquarters at 406-752-5501 or to Park Manager Amy Grout at 406-751-4598.

For a definition of Stage 1 fire restrictions visit: http://fwp.mt.gov/news/drought/definitions.html#stageI
