THOMPSON FALLS — Three points was all the difference between first and second place Jan. 21 at the Ted Kato Invitational.
St. Ignatius-Charlo slipped past Eureka to win the Ted Kato Invitational 150.5 to 147.5 points. Arlee also placed well, earning third place with 135 points.
Scotty Gilleard (130) and Barret Sargent (189) led the Bulldogs with pins of Florence’s Kody Davidson in 4:10 and Arlee’s Clayton Trimble in 5:34.
In the 135-division championship, Eureka’s Jose Letcher defeated Arlee’s Cameron Dominick 11-4, and Superior’s Dan Taron pinned Austin Rubel in 38 seconds. Nathan Bertollt of Arlee defeated Big Sky’s Jason Riekena 5-4 in the 145 championship. The Warriors’ Albert Plant (171) was pinned by Florence’s Tanner Cobbs in 1:26 to place second in his division.
On Jan. 17, The St. Ignatius-Charlo wrestling team remained undefeated in dual competition against Class B-C opponents with a 42-24 victory over Arlee in Mission. The Warriors lost four matches and won two by forfeit.
Under a spotlight in the dim Mission gymnasium, Jamie Mullins put the first points on the scoreboard with a 9-7 decision win over Arlee’s Dan Dunlop. From there, two pins were added from Cody Couture (145) who pinned Austin Ruble in 3:56 and Jacen Petersen (160) over Leif Rova in 2:26.
