SUPERIOR— At the District 10C volleyball tournament held in Superior, the Arlee Scarlets battled a consistent foe in the Plains Trotters, making it to the final two championship matches before running out of steam.

After plowing through the Superior Bobcats (3-1) in game one, Arlee rose to the challenge Friday against the Trotters, although a long battle was in store as the Scarlets defeated Plains 3-2 in five close sets, 12-25, 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 16-14.

On Saturday the Scarlets stopped Charlo 3-1 before losing championship matches to Plains, 2-3 and 0-3, ending the tournament with the Scarlets in second place.

Charlo began the tournament strong, earning quick victories over Two Eagle River (3-0) and Noxon (3-0) on Friday.

But Saturday brought challenges the Lady Vikings could not overcome as they battled Arlee in a 3-1 loss, then fought the Trotters valiantly to five sets but came up short in the 11-25, 25-19, 25-14, 18-25, 15-11 match. The loss placed Charlo at third.

Two Eagle River ended their season without a win at districts, losing 0-3 to Charlo and 0-3 to St. Regis.

Arlee will move on to divisional play Nov. 5-7 in Butte.

Charlo played a challenge game Monday night against District 9C Philipsburg to determine which team will advance to divisionals.

Because that game happened after the Valley Journal went to print for this issue, results will be posted in the next issue, Nov. 11.
