Lanterns soared to new heights during the New Year’s Eve Community Lantern Lighting event on Thursday, Dec. 31 outside the St. Joseph Medical Center.
“This is to help Polson soar into the new year,” said Jackie Cripe, Polson Business Community chair member. The PBC sponsored the event with support from area businesses.
The event was also a fundraiser with all proceeds going to the local food bank. Lanterns sold at $5 each, but some people donated more. Last year, $800 was raised at the event, and this year, close to the same amount was collected.
“We ordered 300 lanterns,” said Marilyn Frame, event coordinator. She added that several businesses sold the lanterns before the event.
