Mission, Deer Lodge split doubleheader

ST IGNATIUS – The Lady Bulldogs dropped a pair of home games this week as the team lost first to Florence on Tuesday, 8-4, and then to Deer Lodge 12-11 during the first of two games on Friday.

Even though a combined 44 runs were scored during a Western B-C doubleheader at St. Ignatius on Friday, both teams managed to win by a single run.

During the first game, Janeal McDonald hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 3-4 lead.

Deer Lodge had built up a comfortable 12-5 lead by the sixth inning. Mission-Arlee-Charlo rallied in the bottom of the sixth by putting up five runs to bring the team within two runs.

MAC was able to keep the Lady Wardens from scoring during the top of the seventh, and nearly pulled out the victory when the came within one run, but were unable to bring the runner home. Deer Lodge prevailed, winning 12-11.

Kyla Olson, Emily Gillingham, Mahalia Hendren, and Alyssa Doty all finished the game with a pair of hits. Olson lost at the mound, with a record of 4-2 overall.

Annie Lombardi and Michele Christnacht finished with a pair of hits for the Lady Wardens.
In the second game, MAC held on after coring three runs in the top of the seventh to win the game 11-10.

The Lady Wardens had an opportunity to take the win, as bases were loaded with two outs. Dani Walker sent a single to Sara Nerby, who then fired the ball home to get Annie Lombardi out to end the game.

McDonald led the Lady Bulldogs at bat, hitting 2-3, while Lauren Erickson went 2-4, and Doty went 2-5. Olson won in the circle, improving to 5-2.

Delaney Knuchez led her team with a pair of hits, while Lombardi, Paige Kruzich and Walker all finished with one hit.

The Lady Bulldogs were handed their first loss of the season as Florence held Mission-Arlee-Charlo to only four runs, and only 8-28 at bat on April 12 in St. Ignatius.

The Lady Bulldogs would go scoreless through the first three innings, as the Falcons increased the deficit to 4-0 by the time the top of the fourth began. The team made an attempt to get back in the game, as they were able to muster up an offensive presence throughout the remainder of the game, scoring one run in the fourth and sixth innings, and a pair in the bottom of the seventh.

The Falcons, however, were able to match the team in runs through the final three innings, to double up MAC, winning 8-4.

Sara Nerby and Janeal McDonald both led their team at bat, as they both finished the game hitting 2-4. Olson lost her first match at the mound, falling to 4-1

Brittany Heinz led Florence at bat, hitting 3-4, while Paige Bodner, Courtney Byrne, and Hayley Cole all finished with a hit.
