News from Montana School Boards Association

POLSON — The Polson School Board Superintendent Search Committee has selected three finalists to interview for the position of superintendent. The new superintendent will replace Linda Reksten, who will be retiring at the end of this school year.

The three finalists are Garry Cameron, Beth Schwarz and Tyler Arlint.

“We were encouraged with the number of applications, which made the selection process somewhat difficult,” Vice Chairman Chanel Lake said. “We look forward to learning more about the finalists during the interviews.”

Garry Cameron is currently serving as the principal for Upland High School in Upland, California. Prior to this position, Cameron has served as principal for the Port Angeles School District, assistant principal for Hemet Unified School District, and a teacher at Hemet Unified School District and Marysville School District. Cameron received his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Washington, master’s degree from the University of Puget Sound, and his doctorate from the University of Southern California. Cameron has served 16 years in public education as a principal and teacher. Cameron was also commissioned as a Navy officer in 1988.

Beth Schwarz currently serves as the superintendent of Cook County School District, Grand Marais, Minnesota. Prior to this position, Schwarz worked at Southwest Minnesota State University as the Director of Education, a PK-12 principal in Cottonwood, Minnesota, and a physical science teacher in Perham and Belle Plain, Minnesota. Schwarz received her bachelor degree in Chemistry and Education from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota; her master’s in education from St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota; and her superintendent endorsement from Minnesota State University, Mankato, Minnesota. Schwarz has served in public education for 28 years as a superintendent, principal, teacher, and director of education.

Tyler Arlint is currently the Superintendent of Lambert Public Schools in Lambert, Montana. Arlint has also served as superintendent for the Savage Public Schools and K-12 music teacher for the Thompson Falls Public Schools. Arlint received his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Montana and his master’s in educational leadership from Rocky Mountain College, Billings.

On Tuesday, March 1, candidates will tour schools in Polson and meet with administrative and school staff, and the Indian Education Committee before formal interviews in the conference room of the district office. Interviews are at 3:30, 4:45 and 6 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend.
