CHARLO – The Charlo Vikings are hitting their stride at the perfect time as they head into the first round of playoffs this week against Absarokee. Last week, the Vikings had little time to prepare, as a shortened school allowed a mid-week game against Seeley Swan at home on Wednesday. The Vikings exploded offensively from the start, allowing them to take a 42-0 lead at halftime. During the second half, Charlo got the opportunity to play a good portion of their younger players, with the Vikings pulling away with a 50-8 win.

Viking running back Jacen Petersen was a force on the field, scoring three touchdowns on 10 rushes for 78 yards.

Tra Ludeman finished the game with four carries for 47 yards, including two touchdowns, while Connor Daugherty ran the ball seven times for a career-high 67 yards.

The Charlo offense finished the game with six different runners touching the ball on 31 rushes for 215 yards and six touchdowns.

“This game was a nice way to end the regular season,” head coach Mike Krahn said. “We were able to get our young kids in the game and they played well.”

Conor Marlatt scored the only touchdown for Seeley-Swan (0-9) on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter to finally get up on the scoreboard. Marlatt then passed to Quinn Nicholas for a two-point conversion to bring the final score to 50-8.

Charlo will host Absarokee in the first round of the state playoffs, with the game time not determined by press time.

“Absarokee has good team size and brings a punishing rushing attack,” Krahn said. “We will be working on defending the option and playing physical football.”
