News from Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation POLSON — Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation, formerly Polson Dollars for Scholars, awarded 21 scholarships totaling $23,750 to Polson High School seniors and former Polson High School graduates who are currently attending an accredited two-year, fouryear, community college, university or vocational school.

Two new scholarships were provided this year in memory of Robert Depoe III and Travis Dolphin in the amount of $500 each. Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation matched $500 to these scholarships to increase the amount to $1,000.

The Depoe Scholarship was awarded to Anthony Peterson, a student at Salish Kootenai College. The Dolphin Scholarship was awarded to Hailey Morgan a senior at Polson High School. A third new scholarship provided by the Alumni Class of 1965 in the amount of $1,000 with $500 from the class and matched with $500 from PSEF was awarded to Sarah Howell.

The following scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each with $500 dollars from memorials and a $500 match from PSEF were: The Hib and Mildred Hanson Memorial scholarship awarded to Lydia Dupuis, the Montecahto Club Scholarship to Claire Lanier, and the Trusler Family Vocational Scholarship to David Rutledge.

Three $1,500 scholarships with $1,000 from organizations and $500 added by PSEF were awarded to Natalie Wheeler for the Women of Rollins Emma Sager Scholarship, The Class of ’59 Scholarship went to Hannah Potter and the School District #23 Scholarship was awarded to Kylie Murphy.

Three $500 scholarships from the Oberlitner/Theiler Family Scholarship with an added $250 from PSEF were awarded to Mollie Lemm, Tessa Nunlist and Grace Sievert.

Because of the high cost of post-secondary education, PSEF donated money to individual scholarships that have been sponsored by various groups of individuals, so that each $500 scholarship for college students was increased to $1,500 with $1,000 added by PSEF. The following $1,500 scholarships were also presented to students who are graduates and currently attending college. The Merle Anderson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sarah Rausch. McKenna Sampson was awarded the Sue Gregg Lanier Memorial Scholarship. The Wayne and Helen Gryde Memorial Scholarship awarded to Heidi Rausch. The Ruth Walker Scholarship was awarded to Lauren Dupuis. Jaylin Kenney awarded the Alumni Class of 1920-1955 scholarship.

Other students attending college who were awarded $750 scholarships from The Theiler/Oberlitner Scholarship were Riley Kenney, Austin Von Tom, Caden Howlett, and Beverly Timentwa.

Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation, is a local non-profit organization established in 2002 as Polson Dollars for Scholars. The purpose of the organization is to expand access to postsecondary educational opportunities for Polson High School graduates. Since its inception we have provided 246 students with a $238,000 worth of scholarships. Taxdeductible donations, individuals leaving money in their wills, and fundraisers provide the funds for scholarships as well as individuals setting up a scholarship fund in memory of a loved one. All donations and monies raised goes towards scholarships.
