While crowds flock to parades, rodeos and a variety of competitions during Pioneer Days in Ronan, there’s more going on than just fun and games. Last year the Ronan Pioneer Days Company gave out $1,300 in college scholarships. The scholarship funds come from sales of 50/50 Pioneer Days buttons that are available from most committee members in town or at the fairgrounds during the event. The proceeds are then split between the winner and the scholarship committee.
Last year’s winners were Kail Cheff and Talina Sinclair, who earned $500 a piece, and Kaitlyn Woirhaye, who received $300. One scholarship winner in past years earned $2,425 towards education.
High school students in grades nine through 12 are eligible, as are college freshmen, sophomore and juniors.
Winners are decided by arena games held on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5 and 6. For more information, call Kim Aipperspach at Arnie’s Gas and Tire, 406-676-0400.
