RONAN — An emotional tribute honoring 102 emergency personnel in attendance in advance of 9/11 Patriots’ Day took place prior to the Ronan Chiefs football game against Libby Friday night.

Members of local police and volunteer fire departments, the Lake County Sheriff’s department, Search and Rescue, tribal fire, ambulance crews and veterans were all saluted during the program. Thirty-eight emergency vehicles entered the stadium and surrounded the football field as an ALERT helicopter, flown by Ronan graduate Joe Walchuk, circled overhead while the Veterans Honor Guard presented colors and the National Anthem boomed from loudspeakers.

A timeline of the Sept. 11, 2001, events was read aloud and a video representing the courage of law enforcement was played during the ceremony and again at halftime, after the sun had set.
