News from the City of Polson
POLSON — The City of Polson is actively looking for citizens who are interested in contributing to our community. As many of you know, in addition to the City Commission, there are many Boards within the City that provide guidance to the Commission on a variety of elements, including the parks, the golf course, planning, economic development, etc. The input these Boards contribute is instrumental in guiding the City Commission’s decision making process.
We invite people to become more involved with your City by serving on the Boards. Here is a list of what each Board focuses on, and how many positions are available. If there is something that sparks your interest, we ask that you provide an application to the City. Applications can be found on the City’s website at www.cityofpolson. com, or by stopping by City Hall. If you have any questions, please call 406-883- 8203 for more information.
— City/County Planning Board: Nine members comprised of four County Representatives, four City Representatives, and one member from the Conservation District Board of Supervisors, each serve two-year terms. This Board is responsible for reviewing building and zoning applications and providing recommendations on approval to the City Commission. The Board meets on an as-needed basis. There are three vacancies the City is looking to fill.
— Board of Adjustment: Seven members, all who must be City residents, are appointed at-large (no Ward restrictions) for three-year terms. This Board has the responsibility of hearing variance requests and appeals for the Polson Development Code and Growth Policy. The BOA meets on an as-needed basis. There are five vacancies the City is looking to fill.
— Golf Board: Seven members with the majority of Board members being City residents (at-large, no Ward restrictions), and all with two-year terms. This Board is responsible for providing guidance to our Golf Course Management Company and to the City Commission on Golf Course related issues. The Golf Board meets the second Wednesday of each month during the golf season. There is one vacancy the City is looking to fill.
— Park Board: Nine members, with eight members who are City residents and appointed by the City Commission, and one member who is recommended by the County Commissioners. All members serve two-year terms. This Board is responsible for providing guidance to our Parks Department and to the City Commission on any Parks related issues. They meet the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. from spring until fall. There are eight vacancies the City is looking to fill.
— Airport Board: Five-member board consisting of two Lake County residents, and one resident from each of the three incorporated cities (Polson, Ronan, St. Ignatius). The Airport Board acts as an advisory board to both the County and City Commissions, and they meet the second Thursday of each month. There are no vacancies to fill at this time.
— Polson Redevelopment Agency: Five members, all who must be City residents (at-large), serve four-year terms. The PRA is responsible for guiding the Tax Increment Financing by making recommendations to the City Commission on the funding that becomes available each year. Some of the projects this has supported include the walkway under the bridge and the paving/lighting on Main Street. The PRA meets on an as-needed basis. There are three vacancies the City is looking to fill.
— Economic Development Council: Seven members with the majority of representatives being City residents (at-large), each serving three year terms. This Board is charged with providing recommendations to the City Commission on economic development ideas and issues. They meet on an as-needed basis. There are two vacancies the City is looking to fulfill, one of which must be a City resident.
