News from St. Luke Community Foundation

RONAN — St. Luke Community Healthcare Foundation, with funding support from the Susan G. Komen Grant, held its first annual “Bingo for Breast Health” on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at St. Luke Hospital.

The penthouse was decorated in pink, and gift bags were given to all who came to the event. The evening included a free dinner, health education, free mammograms and five very lively Bingo Games.

The event kicked off with a traditional Native American blessing presented by Carol Lankford. A dinner of homemade beef stew, rolls, fresh cut fruit and veggies, cookies and cake was provided by the very talented St. Luke kitchen staff. Steve Todd, CEO of St. Luke, took the floor at that point and informed everyone about the new Oncology Infusion Center that will be built in 2017.

Dr. Michael Hromadka from Glacier Plastic Surgery provided information on breast reconstruction post surgery. Also present was Allison Holweger from the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program, to provide information on the issues involved with cancer and what to look for.

At this point the very aggressive bingo playing began with numerous prizes including gift certificates, clothing, makeup and a complete wellness exam. A number of women also took advantage of the free mammogram screening by the St. Luke Imaging Department and manual breast exams provided by Dr. Megan Vigil.

The evening culminated with a game of Blackout Bingo with a grand prize worth more than $2,000. More than 50 women came out to this first-ever event that will now become a new St. Luke Community Healthcare tradition. Thanks to everyone who came out for this very special evening to promote women’s health.
