ARLEE — What a beginning for spring … there’s beautiful sunshine, pouring rain, snow and grapple, rainbows and thunder, daffodils and hyacinths, which should bring the seniors out in full force to enjoy the meals at the Arlee Senior Center on Weissinger Street. Yet, the last few months have had fewer and fewer people enjoying our meals that are a great nutritional boost to the day for only a mere $4. When our cook, Kelly Burland, tells me that there were only two who showed up for lunch, it makes me cry. Is the Arlee Senior Center to go down the road as the Missoula Senior Center, to be sold because of lack of attendance? Should we not honor our past members who built the center by donations, hard work and being there nearly every meal? What has happened to the senior age group of 55 through 90+ who don’t believe they are seniors yet? If there is a way for anyone to help support the center, to bring ideas of fun and then follow through with the projects, the board would most certainly be very happy to help with it.
It is always hard for any kind of restaurant to survive in a small town when there is competition from seven eateries in town. The Salish Senior Center and the Arlee Center have agreed to offer meals on alternate days in order for all to enjoy the daily lunch. We truly miss our fellow seniors and hope you will bring your families to our meals. Remember, we serve Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and every other Saturday - which is this coming Saturday, April 29.
Help support our elders. Bring your friends. Bring your music. Bring your smiles and eat with us, please. We offer take-outs and you can get those by calling 406-726-3213 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and Kelly will fix you up. God bless all our seniors at home.
