ST. IGNATIUS — Volunteering is wonderful. Yes, volunteering is a great way to help your community. It gives you a purpose and reason to take a shower, get dressed, have some fun with friends and help the elderly. Yes, we are all headed towards becoming elderly so why not help while we can? And just maybe someone will help us when we are no longer as able. So if you are retired and have a few hours on your hands, your local senior center can always use an able hand, I’m sure.

The senior center in St. Ignatius has wonderful meals and people have a great time playing Bingo after the Tuesday and Friday lunches.

The center would like to thank the KwaTaqNuk Resort, Amanda Rice and Bev’s Bloomers’ for their donations to the center’s Mother’s Day basket. Raffle tickets are on sale now and the drawing will be on May 12. In the raffle basket there is a certificate for a dinner cruise for two on the Shadow, a half-hour massage with Amanda and a $35 gift certificate for Bev’s Bloomers and much more.

Check out the center on Tuesdays and Fridays for lunch and pickup some tickets for $1 each or eight tickets for $5. Also at our dinners every first and third Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. there is a drawing for a free lunch or dinner and also a 50/50 drawing.

There is a new wheel chair accessible bathroom and we will be working on a new back porch this summer, thanks to a Blackfoot Telephone grant.

Thanks go out to all those who come and help at the center; try it, you might like it.
