POLSON – Tolerance is at the heart of the upcoming UnVariety Show, slated for May 19 at KwaTaqNuk Resort. Co-hosted by the Salish Kootenai College Spirit of Many Colors, SAFE Harbor and ACLU Montana, it is a night to embrace diversity, celebrate individuality and share in a high level of laughter.

“It is a chance to come together and have fun, while recognizing the rich diversity within the community,” explained James Steele, Jr. Steele is on the staff at Salish Kootenai College and is the advisor for the Spirit of Many Colors Club, a group founded to offer support to those from the LGBTQ community. “As a society, we continue to face challenges around identity, community and acceptance. This is a night to remember the connections we share and the value of tolerance.”

The event is a fundraiser for scholarships at Salish Kootenai College and everyone is welcome. During the night, the program will include a Lip Sync Battle.

“Who doesn’t like to watch people blend into a famous performer while belting out a favorite song?” Steele asked. “We still have a few openings for this part of the program-so give us a call if you have a group.”

Along with the Lip Sync Battle, the night will include drag performances, singing, comedy, karaoke and some stunning entertainment by the Cigarette Girls Burlesque out of Missoula. This group is known for providing a festive show with song, comedy and dance. Their tag line is “with a wink, a smile and a dash of glitter and glam.”

“We are so excited about the different types of performers we are going to have that night,” Steele said. “Along with the Cigarette Girls, who have their own following, we are going to have some of the top drag performers in the region, who are all donating their time for the event.”

Over the course of the event, attendees can also bid on special raffle baskets and silent auction items. The night will end with a Karaoke Sing Off, including prizes.

“The night caps off with karaoke for those who want to take the stage,” Steele added. “And throughout the night we have some special interactive events that will surprise and delight the crowd.”

Tickets are $5 per person or $60 for a VIP table for 8. This is an 18 and older show. For more information, to register for the Lip Sync Battle or to get tickets, call Steele at 275-4712 or Dana at 240-0640.
