News from Mission Valley Rises

Despite the many backgrounds and political views in Mission Valley, one group wants to remind people that we are all one community.

Mission Valley Rises: Democracy Engaged! is a sister-group to Missoula Rises – a community-led, local group committed to the protection of the rights of all community members. They work through dialogue and education – seeking input from all people in order to find common ground.

Potlucks are always a good way to start, and the group has now held two Potlucks for Democracy. The first was a get-acquainted event, during which community members shared their ideas and concerns.

The second potluck was a review of the upcoming special election and the candidates’ positions. Halladay Quist was on hand to speak for Rob Quist, but candidates Greg Gianforte and Mark Wicks did not send representatives, despite repeated requests – so members of the group checked their websites and interviews for their views.

The group’s third Potluck for Democracy will be a panel discussion of an issue central to the community. Anyone interested is welcome to attend events. Check the calendar section for regular meeting updates.
