POLSON — After postponing consideration of new special event fees last month, the Polson City Commission on May 1 unanimously voted to move forward with increases in deposits for special event, street and park shelter permits along with increases in park shelter fees.

The commission will consider increases in special event fees in about six months. Effective May 2, deposits for street use permits went from zero to $150 with a 50-percent discount for non-profit organizations.

Other changes include increases in deposits for permits for parks, park shelters, vehicle access and seasonal and short-term concessions.

Park shelter fees will now be $10-50 for a partial day or $25-110 per day, depending on the shelter.

In other news, the commission unanimously gave final approval to the issuance of $15.13 million in wastewater system revenue bonds. The bonds, which will be paid for with user fees, will be used to upgrade the sewer treatment plant on Kerr Dam Road.

The city is paying DOWL-HKM $1 million to engineer the project and Swank Enterprises $12.2 million to build it. The project is required by the Environmental Protection Agency so that the city can obtain necessary permitting in the future.

City Manager Mark Shrives said a space needs analysis for the city’s public safety departments is underway and will cost $15,500. He projects that the study — which could lead to a recommendation for a new public safety building — will be finished in late June.
