St. Luke employees donate to local food pantries

News from St. Luke Community Healthcare

RONAN - For more than 60 years, being a good neighbor and supporting the communities we serve has been a priority for St. Luke Community Healthcare. It’s a commitment that is rooted in our core values and lived by all of our employees.

Throughout a five-week period the staff at St. Luke came together to buy, donate and collect $1,000 and 3,500 pounds of non-perishable food to supply the food banks in Ronan, St. Ignatius and Polson with the most essential items going into the holiday season.

“As an active community partner, St. Luke is proud to support the food banks that serve our communities. The Ronan Bread Basket, Polson Loaves and Fish Pantry, Mission Valley Food Pantry and Heart of the Helper Ministry provide an invaluable service to the community and we are pleased at how our employees came together this holiday season to donate and support them,” said Steve Todd, CEO of St. Luke Community Healthcare. “Approximately one in seven Montanans struggle with hunger which can have lasting consequences on both physical and mental health. It is important to support organizations that provide food for those that have the greatest need.”

The food drive was organized by a group of nine employees who make up the fun/activities committee that meets monthly to plan activities and events for staff. Each committee member helped collect, sort and box up all the donations.

The top four departments or group of departments to bring the most items were Surgery & Pharmacy, Maintenance, Human Resources, IT & Materials Management, Environmental Services and the Acute Care Nurses, who will all be treated to a pizza party. St. Luke knows that food drives are important to our local food banks’ ability to provide food to the thousands of individuals they serve. Encouraging staff to donate during the holidays makes a difference in the lives of those in need in our communities.
