News from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes

FLATHEAD INDIAN RESERVATION – Wildland fire officials with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Division of Fire have elevated fire danger within the Flathead Indian Reservation to moderate. Debris burning is closed. Open debris burning will open again on October 1, 2018.

Weather forecasters predict hot and dry conditions by the end of the week with temperatures ranging into the 90s throughout the region. Due to increasing fire danger and changing conditions over this holiday weekend, the public should be extra careful with campfires and fireworks.

People can prevent fires by producing one less spark by making sure campfires are cold to the touch before leaving it at any time of day or night and by drowning it with water and stirring it to expose residual heat. People should have water and hand tools available on-site with a campfire.

CS&KT Division of Fire would also like to remind the public that fireworks are prohibited on all state and federal classified forest lands. With hot weather in the forecast, grasses will dry quickly and increase the potential for starting fires.

People can “like” the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Division of Fire Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CSKT.Division.of.Fire/ to keep up to date on events and notices.
