News from MSU Extension Office

LAKE COUNTY – Nori Pearce, MSU Extension Agent, recently received the Meritorious Service Award from the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents. Individuals receiving this award are nominated by their peers for their level of dedication and commitment to the 4-H program. Those receiving the award must have been involved in Extension for more than 15 years.

Nori has been an Extension Agent in Lake County for 10 years.  She has been involved in the commitment of excellence for 4-H at the local and state levels.  She served as Overall 4-H Superintendent for the Colorado State Fair for five years where she learned an immense amount about the importance of educational guidelines for youth. She has served as lead chaperone on 4-H trips across the country with as many as 50 members and five other chaperones involved at one time.

She is a nationally certified 4-H instructor in Archery and Shotgun. She has also received the Range Safety Officer training from the NRA to ensure 4-H members are safe while learning. She has trained and certified more than 150 individuals to become 4-H shooting sports leaders during her career.

She organizes and hosts two statewide 4-H camps, 4-H Shooting Sports Camp and Cloverbud Camp, at the Darell Fenner 4-H Camp each year with more than 1000 campers having attended the camps. Rain or shine, the participants always report a great time!

Over 200 Lake County 4-H participate in more than 50 different projects each year. Lake County 4-H members and leaders are well represented at state and regional 4-H events such as Congress and Rec Lab, with 4-Hers learning more about themselves and 4-H during attendance at these programs. Lake County 4-H members have participated in Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington DC the past two years. At least one Lake County 4-H member has traveled internationally with 4-H to places such as Norway and Japan for the past five years.

Providing opportunities beyond the ordinary and a commitment to excellence has been and will continue to be Nori’s focus in her Extension career.
