POLSON – Mary Rensvold is facing a breast cancer diagnosis with a team at her side.

Rensvold’s friend, Shelley Croft, is organizing a fundraiser to offset medical costs. The Friday, Jan. 18 fundraiser will feature a spaghetti dinner, a live auction and a silent auction. The event will be held at the Polson Elks Lodge.

A no-host bar begins at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and a live auction will start at 8 p.m. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

Croft and Rensvold have been friends for nearly 20 years. When her friend was diagnosed with breast cancer in October, Croft threw a “pink-out” party to help. At the party, Croft and four other women showed their support for Rensvold by cutting their hair and donating it to an organization that makes wigs for those with cancer. Those who donated include Rensvold’s daughter Samantha and Croft’s daughter Mikayla. Croft shaved her head completely. The group donated 21 inches of hair.

“I did it just to show her that I support her,” Croft said. “Until she’s ready to wear that scar in public, I’ll wear it for her.”

Rensvold is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Following chemotherapy, she will have surgery and undergo radiation. Croft said the treatment has been effective so far.

Those interested in purchasing tickets for the fundraiser can do so at Sweet Bliss, Polson Elks Lodge, First Interstate Bank and Flathead Coffee Company. To donate items for the auctions, contact Lynn DuCharme at 406-270-2120 or Shelley Croft 406-250-9060.

Croft is excited for the fundraiser. “It’s mind-blowing what this community can do when they get together in one room,” she said. “I’m sure that night is going to be pretty amazing.
