GREAT FALLS – It was a rough weekend for both the Arlee Scarlets and the Charlo Lady Vikings during the Class C Girls State Basketball Tournament at the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls.

Both squads exited the eight-team tournament early with back-to-back losses.

The Lady Vikings advanced to the state tournament by winning nail-biter games in both the Western C Divisional and 14C District tournament championships against Arlee.

On Thursday, the Scarlets opened bracket action with a 65-40 loss to the Scobey Lady Spartans. Alyssia Vanderburg paced the Scarlets with 15 points followed by Nellie Desjarlais with 10 points.

In Charlo’s game on Thursday, the Savage Lady Warriors limited the Lady Vikings to a season-low 25 points in a 42-25 first round tournament win. Liev Smith was the lone double-digit scorer for the Lady Vikings with 10 points.

Playing in loser-out games on Friday, Arlee fell by five-points 64-59 to the Wibaux Lady longhorns, while the Ekalaka Lady Bulldogs outlasted the Lady Vikings 58-41.

Vanderburg led all Scarlet shooters with 19 points, followed by Louetta Conko-Camel with 18 points and Desjarlais with 14 points.

Kaitlin Cox scored 14 points, while Destiny Manuel scored a team-high 15 points for the Lady Vikings.

Under first-year head coach Missy Tiensvold, the Scarlets finish the season as District 14C and Western C Divisional runners-up, while posting an overall record of 15-10.

The Lady Vikings and Head Coach Bret Thompson wrapped up their season as both District 14C and Western C Divisional champs, making their first state tournament appearance since 2007 and booking an overall record of 23-3.
