Grace Schumacher

POLSON — Grace Beverly Schumacher, age 100 - (born Oct. 20, 1918), of Polson, passed away on Tuesday, Feb 19, 2019, in her home surrounded by her family. Grace was born and educated in Conrad, Montana. She moved to Polson after her marriage on April 4,1936, to Edmund Schumacher in Shelby, Montana.

Grace loved her friends and was a very active bowler for over 50 years, volunteered for Polson Loaves and Fish, Lady Elks, and was always helping her friends.

She was employed by the Lake County government for over 33 years and was chief deputy treasurer for her last 11 years of employment.

In the 1960s Grace and Eddy owned a little restaurant called the “Stop and Snack” located at the end of Main Street in Polson.

Eddie played in dance bands and Grace loved to dance, so she would be out on the dance floor swinging away. Grace made new friends wherever she went, bowling tournaments, conventions and her many fun vacation trips.

In her later years she and Eddy would go three times a week to rehab at the hospital in Polson. This was her social life and she enjoyed visiting with all her friends. She also loved her rehab family who were employees that worked in the rehab department and they loved her. She attended rehab after she turned 100 years old, until the winter storms slowed her down.

Grace is survived by her daughters, Denise White of Polson and Donna Davis and her husband Dean Peterson of Whitefish; her grandchildren, Cecil Fowler, Michael Anderson and Clark Davis; her great-grandchildren, Cody Fowler, Isabelle Anderson, Tyler Anderson, Ruby Davis, Eddie Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Schumacher; her sisters, Doris Heavirland and Elsa Hecht; one brother, Bud Hoosier; and two grandchildren, Beverly Gregory and Donald White.

There will be a celebration of her life this summer in June/July.
