News from Rebekah Knudsen-Dalbey for TERS

PABLO – The Art Slam is an annual event at Two Eagle River School, which has been going on for 17 years. The event is mainly organized by Sean Dalbey, art instructor at Two Eagle.

The Art Slam is where art show and talent show meet. Students compete in categories such as two dimensional art and photography, but they also enter in cultural categories such as beadwork. That part of the Art Slam is organized by Kathy Tapia, home cultures teacher.

The talent show portion comes in with performance categories, such as slam poetry and music. These areas are organized by Rebekah Knudsen-Dalbey, English instructor.

This end-of-the-year event gives students a chance to showcase and express their talents, as well as show what they’ve learned over the course of the year in the more creative subjects. This year, Dalbey displayed over 100 entries in the art categories alone. Performances range from traditional Salish and Kootenai songs to slam poetry to a rendition of a popular radio hit.

One parent in the audience was amazed by the amount of support from the students to the performers. Students typically cheer and encourage performers when nerves kick in. Art Slam is an event that students and staff alike look forward to all year at Two Eagle River School.
