Fryberger powers Charlo Lady Vikings to second place in divisionals

MISSOULA – It was Divisional weekend for Mission Valley area high school boys and girls track and field teams. 

On Thursday and Friday, Class B Mission Bulldogs along with Class C Arlee Warriors and Charlo Vikings competed in a joint class divisional meet at the MCPS Stadium in Missoula, while Class A Polson Pirates and Ronan Chiefs competed on Friday and Saturday at Butte Central’s Charlie Merrifield Track in Butte during the Western A Divisional. 

At the Western Class C Divisional meet, sophomore Carlee Fryberger’s win in the 100-meter hurdles (16.04), 100-meter dash (13.15) and 200-meter dash (26.90) helped power the Charlo Lady Vikings to a second-place divisional team finish.

Lady Viking senior Kaitlin Cox posted a jump of 16 feet and 1.75 inches for first place in the long jump. She placed second in the triple jump (34-09.50) and finished fifth in the pole vault.

Also for the Lady Vikings, Tyrah Hammond placed third in the pole vault (8-00) and fourth in the 400-meters (1:02.82), while Allie Delaney recorded a time of 49.71 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles for third place and nabbed fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles (17.160). Destiny Manuel placed fourth in the pole vault (8-00). The Lady Vikings also placed second in both the 4X100 relay and the 4X400 relay with Carlee Fryberger, Kassidi Cox, Tyrah Hammond and Allie Delaney.   

Wills DeGrandpre was a double winner for the Charlo Vikings, legging out a 4:42.13 time in the 1600 and pacing the pack with a time of 10:14.98 in the 3200.

Viking Landers Smith won the pole vault with a mark of 12 feet even and finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (42.08), while Garett Vaughan placed fourth in both the pole vault (11-00) and 100-meter hurdles (17.41).

The Vikings 4X100 relay team (Braydon Zempel, Isaiah Allik, Vaughan and Smith) finished fourth with a time of 46.28 seconds. 

For the Arlee Scarlets, Peyton Lammerding finished first in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet and two inches and fifth in the discus (100-04), while Arlee Warrior sophomore Garrett Stringer placed fifth in long jump with a mark of 19 feet and 7.75 inches.

In Class B, Mission Lady Bulldog Sydney Brander won the girls triple jump with a mark of 34 feet and nine inches and placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.76). Karolyna Buck had three top-five finishes for Mission: third in the 800 (2:31.20), third in the 1600 (6:01.28) and fourth in the 3200 (13:21.64).

Also for the Lady Bulldogs, Afton Brander placed second in the long jump (15-8.25) and third in the triple jump (4-08), while Addison Arlint finished fifth in the discus (91-03.50) and Hunter Eichert placed second in the javelin (95-04). 

Both the 4X100 relay and 4X400 team (Afton Brander, Karolyna Buck, Sydney Brander and Eichert) placed fifth for the Lady Bulldogs.

Mission Bulldogs 4X100 relay team (Charlie Adams, Layne Spidel, Troy Matt and Flint McPherson) posted a fifth-place time of 46.95 seconds, while McPherson placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 38 feet and 11.5 inches and notched a 19 feet and four inch mark for fifth place in the long jump.

For Class A Polson, Bea Frissell placed first in the 1600 with a time of 5:16.04 and third in the 800 (2:22.67), while Mikaela Ducharme finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 34 feet and 1.25 inches. 

Quin Stewart finished third in the 800 (1:59.88), Mason Sloan placed fifth in the 3200 (10:35.34) and the 4X400 relay team (Ethan McCauley, Quin Stewart, Alex Wall-Wilbert, Boston Goode) also placed fifth for the Polson boys. 

Ronan Chief James Normandeau finished second in both the 1600 (4:41.60) and 800 (1:58.30), while Maiden Kinsley Barney posted a time of 26.57 second for second place in the 200-meter dash and finished third in the 100-meter dash (11 12.98). Kinsley also anchored the 4X100 team of Tiana Ulutoa, 

Rylie Lindquist and Lindsey Brooks who finished third with a time of 52.80 seconds.

Starting Friday, Polson, Ronan, Charlo and Arlee will complete in the State A and C Track and Field meet in Laural, while Mission travels to Kalispell for the Class B State Track and Field meet.
