LAKE COUNTY – School is out and summer camp season is in. Camps throughout the Mission Valley give local children opportunities to explore new topics and engage with their peers.

The Flathead Reservation and Lake County Boys and Girls Club in Ronan will hold a summer program from Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. until Aug. 16. According to the organization, the program provides “opportunities for discovery, learning, and activities galore.” Applications can be picked up at the club or found online.

School districts in the area hold weekly camps to engage student during the summer. Polson, Ronan and Dixon are providing camps.

The Polson School District boasts four or five choices for camp topics each week. The camps are intended for students in Kindergarten to ninth grade. Potential activities include arts and crafts, history and computer coding. Students have the option to take swimming lessons each Wednesday. The group goes on a field trip to a new place in the state each Thursday. Free breakfast and lunch are provided. Camps run from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from Monday to Wednesday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. Tuition is based on a sliding scale according to family income. Participants can learn more about the program on the After School page of the Polson School District website.

The Ronan School District offers camps for students of all ages at each school in the district. Topics range from rocketry to traditional drum and dance to gardening. All programs are free. Find more information at the Ronan School District website or by contacting Crystal Little Owl at 406-676-3390, ext. 7565.

The Dixon School District will offer one more camp this summer: The Wild Water Adventure. The camp is offered to all students from Kindergarten to eighth grade. Camp runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 29-Aug. 1. There is no charge for the program. Parents can enroll their children by calling 406-246-3566.
