POLSON – The second phase of the three-phase Linderman Gymnasium construction project began last week as crews from Swank Enterprises moved equipment and building supplies onto the site.
“The project is right on track for a winter 2020 completion,” said Rex Weltz, Polson School District superintendent.
Weltz said the first phase was finished by the four-week deadline, which included demolition of the snow-damaged gymnasium debris removal.
“Phase two is predominantly the erection of the new building,” Weltz said.
“The new building is metal-sided with some brick in the front to blend the new building with the old Linderman school,” he said.
Phase three includes hanging the scoreboards, baskets and backboards along with installation of bleachers and lockers. Interior work and design are also included in the third phase. Bids for procurement of contract work for phase three will be going out in the next couple of weeks, Weltz said.
“We wanted that old Linderman feel or at least pieces of old Linderman to be in the new building,” said Weltz. “So some of the old floor, brick and bleachers that we saved will be incorporated into the interior design of the new gymnasium.”
Estimated cost of the project is around $4.2 million. The Travelers Insurance Company is covering gym replacement costs. “We have worked really hard with the insurance company to keep this project as an insurance claim and not a taxpayer burden,” said Weltz.
