Lake county schools earn top 3 spots in cross-country meet

Cross-Country

Mission Invitational

Ronan Chief James Normandeau won his third meet of the season when he crossed the finish line with a time of 16:43.09 during the Mission Invitational hosted by St. Ignatius High School on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Polson’s Mason Sloan finished second with a time of 16:49.11. Brant Heiner of Ronan ran with a time of 17:09.21 for third. On the girls side, it was Josey Neesvig of Thompson Falls who captured the title with a time of 21:12.54 followed by Polson’s Karli Owens in second place with a time of 21:29.72. Lady Bulldog runner Karolyna Buck placed fourth.    

Flathead Invitational

On Saturday, Normandeau placed second with a time of 16:43.35 for the Ronan Chiefs during the Flathead Invitational at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell. The Chiefs placed sixth out of 18 teams, while Ronan runners Heiner and Michael Irvine placed eleventh and twentieth in the top twenty-five. 

 

Volleyball

Ronan Maidens

In a non-conference home game on Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Ronan Maidens fell to the visiting Lady Bulldogs 25-17, 17-25, 25-22, 8-25, 9-15.

Kiana King led Ronan with five kills. Hannah Rowe dished out five assists, and Rylie Lindquist logged 12 digs. Maiden Madeline McCrea had three blocks and two aces.

On Thursday, Ronan won the first set before being swept in the next three for a 26-24, 14-25, 15-25, 16-25 home loss to the visiting Columbia Falls Wildkats. For the Maidens, McCrea had two blocks and 12 kills, Rowe added 25 assists and Lindquist pitched in with 11 digs.

In Northwestern A action on Saturday, the Maidens defeated visiting Browning in four sets 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18. McCrea posted 10 kills, Rowe booked 16 assists and Lindquist chipped in with 11 digs. Haylee Walchuk scored a game high six aces.

Polson Lady Pirates

The Polson Lady Pirates won in three games 25-23, 25-15, 25-14 over Browning on the road Thursday evening. Berkley Ellis had eight assists, one block and three aces in the victory. Kobbey Smith had six kills and three aces. Ara Mercer had 15 digs for the Lady Pirates.

Arlee Scarlets

On Thursday, visiting Loyola swept the Arlee Scarlets 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 in Class B conference action.

Mission Lady Bulldogs

On the road Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Mission Lady Bulldog volleyball team defeated the Ronan Maidens in a five-set battle 17-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-8, 15-9 during a non-conference game in Ronan. Sydney Brander finished with 31 kills on the night for the Lady Bulldogs. Hunter Eichert dished out 28 assists, and River Gonzalez notched 32 digs. Brander (23) and Buck (19) combined for 42 of the Lady Bulldogs’ 49 kills on Saturday in a 21-25, 25-22, 25-7, 25-8 home win over Troy. Eichert led Mission with a game high 43 assists.

 

Football

Polson Pirates

On Friday, the Polson Pirates moved to 2-1 on the season with a Northwestern A 21-6 win over the visiting Browning Indians. Pirate quarterback Bo Kelley threw for two touchdowns.

Ronan Chiefs

The Libby Loggers toppled the Ronan Chiefs 55-6 in Libby on Friday evening. The Chiefs host the Polson Pirates on Friday during Homecoming.

Mission Bulldogs

The Mission Bulldogs blasted Troy for 38 points in the first quarter as the Bulldogs rolled to a 68-30 win on the road Friday night.

Arlee Warriors 

The Arlee Warriors scored touchdowns in the first quarter and fourth quarter in a 48-12 loss to undefeated Seeley-Swan Blackhawks on Friday.

 

Golf

Polson Lady Pirate golfer Ellie Thiel scored third place with 92 on Friday during the Libby Invitational golf tournament at Cabinet View Golf Course in Libby. Maco Jackson carded a seventh place 95 for the Ronan Maidens. Cali Cannon scored a 97 ninth-place finish for the Lady Pirates. Trey Kelley of Polson was the Mission Valley’s boys top finisher with a seventh place 83. 

 

Soccer

In Polson High School soccer action, the boys and girls were shutout in both home games this past weekend. The Pirates dropped a close 1-0 game to Billings Central on Friday and fell 3-0 to Laurel on Saturday. On Friday, Billings Central defeated the Lady Pirates 7-0. In Saturday’s matchup, Laurel prevailed 12-0.
